Apologies we’ve come a little late! We’re not going to live, we’ve really been enjoying the sunshine this weekend, and these 7 brand new indie tunes really are the icing on the cake. Cocktails out, get these blasting out of the system!
CHURCH, HONEY – CHURCH
Yes, we were intrigued by the artist name and song name too! But Yorkshire’s Church, Honey are really easy to listen to… proper coffee house music stuff. Church, their second release to date, is a beautiful acoustic hit exploring the themes of prejudice, loss, self-worth and atheism through beautiful lyricism and endearing vocals. It feels very contemporary, but tones of the organs are vintage in essence, creating a real anthem of an indie song.
DREW THOMAS – RUNNING REDS
Singer-songwriter Drew Thomas is a modern age pop pioneer, leading a similar charge to the likes of Saint Raymond, Casey Lowry and Kawala. Running Reds describes the struggles of being a young creative in a big city, something probably a lot of people on this site can relate to, myself included! It’s anthemic in essence, but Drew’s Dermot Kennedy-esque vocals really allows it to have massive mainstream potential.
FRENCH ALPS TIGER – LET ME DOWN
Raw indie-rock in its finest form, South Wales’ French Alps Tiger write lo-fi indie hits with a bite. Latest release Let Me Down is a melancholic exploration into getting over heartache, told through stunning summer melodies and dreamy vocals. A change in direction from the surf-punk that their fans will know them by, Let Me Down asserts a real presence in the ever-flourishing dream-pop scene.
KID JUPITER – SUPERGLUE
Colourful indie-pop band Kid Jupiter are real ones to watch – known for the intoxicating hooks and glistening guitars, they produce indie-pop bangers designed for happy days. Superglue is no different. It’s a real summer hit, and a strong step forward from previous singles that have earned them support from BBC 6Music’s Tom Robinson and Spotify’s Hot New Bands. Expect big things from these guys!
LA PALMA – INFINITE BOUNCE
Fusing psych-pop with lo-fi indie-rock, La Palma, from across the pond in the US, have released their latest single Infinite Bounce ahead of the release of their second album, which is coming soon. Incredibly, members Tim Gibbon (Philadelphia) and Chris Walker (San Francisco) wrote this song 3000 miles apart while in quarantine – an impressive feat if you ask us! Infinite Bounce is full of unexpected twists and turns, harking the likes of Tame Impala and Mac Demarco and setting themselves up for a massive future in the lo-fi scene.
MARA NUNES – DROWNING SONG
Ethereal and mellow pop singer Mara Nunes, from London via Portugal, dropped her debut single Drowning Song, reflecting on experiences of toxic relationships. Inspired by the likes of Frank Ocean and King Princess, it’s a gentle insight into her mystical world – beautiful and delicate in equal measure. Drowning Song is the first single from her debut EP, Native, due later in the year.
SPIDERS EAT VINYL – IRIS FLARE
Electro-pop duo from Sheffield, Spiders Eat Vinyl’s debut release Iris Flare showcases chilled out, synth-pop in its rawest form, accompanied beautifully by sweet guitar sounds. These guys are a very new name in the game, but already show huge promise in the production of their music, as well as the stories they’re telling. Have a listen to find out what they’re all about…
